How are SIPs made?
Introduction
The vast majority of SIPs consist of two OSB facings pressure-laminated with adhesives to an EPS foam core. Many manufacturers apply the adhesives manually; however. this is inferior since the uneven finish can dramatically affect the structural integrity of the SIP. Foam Laminates of Vermont combats this problem by utilizing its very own spray adhesive process. This one-of-a-kind machine can apply the adhesives to the foam core much more efficiently then mainstream methods.
5 Step Assembly Process
The typical sequence for producing a SIP at Foam Laminates of Vermont is rather simple:
1. The bottom facing is laid out in the assembly area.
2. The foam core is inserted into the spray adhesive machine via a conveyer belt.
3. The foam core emerges with the adhesive evenly applied to both sides.
4. The foam is placed on the bottom facing and covered with the top facing.
5. The panel is pressure laminated for a specific time as determined by the temperature and humidity.
After the glue cures, the SIP is then ready.

Foam Laminates of Vermont not only follows the industry standard of glue application, but we built the first spray adhesive process in order to form an even and strong contact between the facings and the foam.
